As it was recently Earth Day I thought I would share what amazing work Fowler Smith is continuously doing to promote environmental protection. Earth Day was first celebrated 56 years ago, on the 22nd of April 1970. It was created to raise awareness about environmental issues and gain public support for environmental protection. Earth day originally started in the United States, but started to become a global event in 1990, and currently is celebrated by over 1 billion people! There are over 10,000 events taking place across the world, that spread across over 192 countries! These activities include community clean ups, tree planting, and peaceful demonstrations. With the current detrimental environmental pollution affecting our planet, it is vital that days such as Earth Day are promoted and celebrated, in order to protect our planet before it is too late.

At Fowler Smith Mortgages and Protection we are promoting environmental protection and raise awareness about ecological issues by planting trees across the globe via an app called TreeApp. After every completion we have here at Fowler Smith, we pledge to plant a tree! So far this year we have planted an amazing total of 106 trees. By planting 106 trees we have reforested 707 meters squared of land. The trees we have planted are estimated to absorb 11.6 tonnes of carbon dioxide in their lifetime. The TreeApp we use also allows us to see the amount of work days we have created from our trees! This shows the physical planting of trees, as well as the essential tasks that surround it, such as site preparation and the long-term tree maintenance. Each step of the tree planting supports a sustainable, local employment.

Trees absorb carbon dioxide and store it. By planting trees this helps to take action against climate change by reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions. Did you know a mature tree can absorb as far as 22kg of carbon dioxide a year? Planting trees in 2026 is of great importance for various reasons, such as: air quality improvement, environmental protection, economic growth and climate change mitigation. Without trees there would be numerous detrimental affects to our planet. There would be a rapid decline in oxygen levels, leading to the air being unsuitable for breathing, a major disruption to the wildlife and soil erosion. The sustainability of our environment is very important to us all here at Fowler Smith. Every tree we plant together helps not only the planet - but people, too. You can follow our tree planting via our website (www.fowlersmith.co.uk) which shows the live amount of trees we have planted.
