Work Experience
Each year, we have two work experience intakes at our Colchester Head Office - one in the Spring and one in the Autumn. Opportunity is important to us at Fowler Smith, and with our work experience programme we offer you the opportunity to gain insight about our business, work with talented individuals and build your professional network.

What will you do?
Our week-long work experience programmes give you an insight into a number of aspects of our firm and the financial industry as a whole. You'll be assigned a mentor for the week, who will be there to guide you through shadowing, learning and building connections with peers. You'll first-hand have the opportunity to see the multitude of roles within our firm and learn from each of them. Whether it's speaking with the Founders, working next to an adviser, or understanding the role of the administrative team - your week will be varied.
What will you gain?
Gaining experience before starting your career gives you a step-up and demonstrates to future potential employers that you've chosen to invest your time wisely, and applied yourself to learn. You'll also understand the operational side of a growing business, see first-hand leadership and also understand the intricacies of advice; which will prove beneficial for you when looking to pursue a career in the finance industry. You'll also receive a reference following a successful week of experience at our firm.

How long is the programme?
At present, we allow for a one-week programme, Monday through to Friday, where you'll be present for the working week alongside colleagues within the business.

How many spaces are there?
After a successful trial intake in 2025, we're allowing for one space in Spring and one space in Autumn going forwards. The opportunity is lucrative, but we want each individual to gain as much useful insight to the business as possible. There may be expansion of spaces in the future, but at present each intake is limited to one individual.

Who can apply?
This one-week work experience, is specifically available to students or those who have recently finished their studies. This is a shadowing opportunity where you are not expected to carry out any work for the business.

Is it a paid work experience opportunity?
No - where this is a shadowing-based work experience, you are not expected to do any work therefore no wage is paid.

How do I apply?
